[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]
Set at the bride’s family home in historic Augusta, Georgia, this reception was the epitome of Southern sophistication with a fresh, modern spirit. With the physical setting representing generational family sentiment, the through lines for this wedding vision were timelessness, heritage, and unparalleled hospitality. After the couple exchanged traditional vows in a formal wedding ceremony at their church, guests were shuttled to the family’s home to celebrate and sip on cocktails on the front lawn. Once cocktail hour concluded, guests meandered through the charming iron gates on the sides of the home into a stunning custom garden tent built in the backyard—designed to feel like an extension of the home’s timeless charm. Layers of soft white drapery with French blue trim, oversized linen pendant lanterns, and thoughtfully placed lounge vignettes created an inviting, residential feel that balanced formality with ease. The upper terrace of the back lawn was transformed into a custom-floored entertainment area with the band featured on a stage above the pool, and guests lingering on the romantically lit dance floor until the last song ended. Every detail, from the curated spring florals to the understated elegance of the evening attire, reflected a quiet luxury—making this celebration a beautiful marriage of tradition and taste. Cocktail hour unfolded beneath the magnolia trees in the front yard, but the real surprise came later in the evening, when that same space was transformed into a vibrant after-party disco. Velvet Hammer milkshakes, notorious to Augusta locals, were passed alongside late-night bites as guests danced beneath disco balls suspended from the 200-year-old branches overhead. It was a celebration grounded in tradition but full of personality—a joyful, thoughtful expression of Southern hospitality and modern love.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]
After dating for 5 years, Alec planned a couple’s trip to Charleston for early March 2024. He did this without any input from Ruthie, which she claims is very rare for them. They had plans to meet college friends for drinks after an early dinner at Frannie and the Fox. After finishing their meal, Alec suggested they take a walk to see the Pineapple Fountain before meeting their friends at Blind Tiger. Despite the ongoing monsoon, Ruthie agreed, and they laughed about the pouring rain and having to tilt the umbrella to protect their faces. Being unfamiliar with the area, Alec got turned around and had to ask for directions to the fountain. Once they got next to the fountain, Ruthie became impatient, worried about arriving last to meet friends, and also because she was soaked through to her socks! Alec went down on one knee, and Ruthie made the joke, “How funny that would be!” She recalls being genuinely confused as to why Alec wouldn’t stand up. Then, Ruthie noticed the ring box. After Alec proposed, they eventually made their way to the Blind Tiger, and Ruthie was surprised by both families and many friends from across the country to celebrate.

With 15 bridesmaids, Ruthie prioritized finding a dress that flattered all of her bridesmaids, both in style and color. She selected a Lula Kate bengaline dress in French blue, with a square neckline and an a-line pleated skirt. It looked gorgeous on each girl and softly complemented the impressive detailing on Ruthie’s gown.

The groom wore his own classic black tuxedo, with a black cummerbund and studs. Alec wore silver monogrammed cufflinks given to him as a groomsman’s gift in a previous wedding.

Guests were treated to a lively and elevated dining experience, courtesy of Tastefully Yours Catering. The evening began with a thoughtful mix of Southern-inspired hors d’oeuvres—mini tomato pies, fried oysters on the half shell, and brisket sliders layered with pimento cheese and bacon jam. Chef-attended stations offered made-to-order street tacos, fresh pasta dishes, and carved beef tenderloin served with rosemary biscuits and bold house-made sauces. As the party transitioned into a late-night disco, guests refueled with Velvet Hammer milkshakes and Wife Saver chicken tenders —a playful and nostalgic nod to the bride’s Augusta roots.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]
The florals and design elements were thoughtfully curated to complement the timeless beauty of the family’s historic home and its mature Southern landscape. Mary Pinson brought the front façade to life with an airy garland of natural white blooms, loosely woven along the iron railings and column bases—setting a soft, elegant tone from the moment guests arrived. At the reception, spring pastel florals were arranged in heirloom silver compotes, lending sentiment and charm to each tablescape. The team at LLC Events designed the garden tent to feel like an elevated outdoor living room, complete with soaring linen drapery and custom French blue–trimmed chandelier shades from LIT Charleston. A mix of traditional tables, lounge groupings, and banquette seating created a dynamic guest experience, with garden hedge florals nestled between dining areas for a refined, residential feel.

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]The five-tier wedding cake by Lila Green featured a sleek, smooth-iced finish adorned with a delicate cascade of spring blooms. Perched on a silver pedestal and displayed in the bride’s family’s formal living room, the cake presentation was as meaningful as it was beautiful. Just beyond the display, a childhood portrait of the bride hung above the mantel—quietly telling a story of home, history, and the beginning of a new chapter.[/field]

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]
Ruthie’s family moved into her father’s childhood home when she was 10 years old, and from then on, she dreamt of having her wedding there. Her aunt was married there in Winter 1999, and that served as a blueprint in Ruthie’s mind for hosting a large reception on their property.

[field title=”Special Detail #2″]
The blue sapphire ring Ruthie wore on her right hand served as her something old, borrowed, and blue. It was lent to Ruthie by her Aunt on her wedding day. The ring originally belonged to Ruthie’s grandmother, for whom she is named, but Ruthie never got the chance to meet her. Ruthie’s grandmother passed in 1993, and Ruthie loved having a little bit of her grandmother with her on her wedding day.

As you can see, location was a special sentiment for Ruthie and Alec’s wedding. The wedding ceremony took place at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, where Ruthie has been a lifelong member with her family. Before the wedding rehearsal on Friday evening, Alec and Ruthie’s families gathered for communion in the Chapel where Ruthie was baptized. Before walking the aisle as a bride, Ruthie previously walked it as an angel in the annual Christmas pageant, a member of the Children’s Choir, for Communion in 8th grade, and most recently as a bridesmaid in her brother’s wedding. Ruthie cherishes having that beautiful history with the place where she and Alec got married.
