The design of the day was classic with a modern twist, inspired by the timeless elegance of a Nancy Meyers film. We embraced a palette of moss green, soft whites, and creamy neutrals to create a look that felt both grounded and graceful. I wanted our wedding to feel warm and welcoming, with a strong sense of hospitality—like inviting our guests into a beautifully curated home. From the moment they arrived, I hoped everyone felt cared for and celebrated. Planning locally allowed me to be involved in every detail, from seeing the venue in every season to picking up paper goods in person. My mom has an incredible gift for design and helped bring the vision to life in a way that felt effortlessly refined and deeply personal.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Josh proposed on May 17, 2024, in Charlotte, North Carolina, in a plan filled with intention, family, and sentimental detail. He first asked Margaret’s mom for her blessing during a car ride back from Winston-Salem. She had a treasured family diamond Margaret had always admired, and Josh had it reset at Bisnar’s, the oldest jewelry store in North Carolin, where Margaret grew up going. He wanted the proposal to feel like a normal date night to keep the surprise. Josh picked out a cocktail dress for Margaret and wore a sports coat. They arrived at Freedom Park, and as they turned a corner onto a bridge, Margaret saw rose petals and knew—“this is for me.”

Margaret wore a timeless off-the-shoulder A-line gown in luminous ivory satin, a perfect reflection of her classic-meets-modern wedding vision. The structured bodice featured a soft sweetheart neckline with elegant draping, while the full skirt created a romantic silhouette that felt both regal and effortless. A long, sheer veil added a touch of tradition as it trailed behind her, completing the look with subtle drama. Her look was a study in timeless bridal elegance—refined, confident, and beautifully her.

[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]The groom and groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos, in keeping with the event’s black-tie elegance. Crisp white shirts, black bow ties, and satin lapels gave their look a timeless, formal feel that perfectly complemented the sophisticated setting. The groom distinguished himself with a slightly more structured jacket, and all the men struck a balance between traditional and sleek—ideal for the classic-with-a-modern-twist vision of the day.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]

Food and drink were a central part of the celebration, carefully curated to feel abundant, elegant, and deeply personal. Cocktail hour began with a playful and visually stunning presentation: a wall of burrata served three different ways to welcome guests, alongside passed appetizers like beef tenderloin biscuits and chicken bites with a trio of dipping sauces—an intentional nod to the bride’s love of all things sauce. The reception featured stations, allowing guests to explore and indulge at their own pace. Highlights included a seafood tower, grazing station, pasta station, and a made-to-order crêpe station, offering something for every palate and adding a fun, interactive element to the evening.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

The floral design and decor were a seamless extension of the wedding’s “classic with a modern twist” aesthetic. A soft palette of moss green, ivory, and cream created an atmosphere of effortless elegance, grounded in natural beauty. The arrangements were lush yet tailored—likely featuring seasonal blooms in layered whites and greens, accented by subtle textures that gave a nod to the bride’s Nancy Meyers inspiration. Margaret’s mother, known for her intuitive design eye, led the visual planning, ensuring every detail, along with Matt Starnes, the lead planner—from the ceremony florals to the table settings—felt timeless, welcoming, and uniquely personal. The overall ambiance was that of a refined garden party with a Southern soul.

The ceremony was deeply personal and reverent, held at the same church where the bride’s parents were married 41 years earlier. Officiated by the bride’s longtime priest and dear friend, Rev. Karla Woggan, the service was rooted in tradition and family. The couple chose to say traditional vows, a beautiful nod to legacy and commitment, and one of the most moving moments came as they served communion to each of their guests—a sacred and intimate act of hospitality. Margaret walked down the aisle to All Creatures of Our God and King, a joyful hymn that filled the space with warmth and reverence. At the reception, held just down the road at The White Home, the celebration continued with an unforgettable first dance to You Are the Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne. The couple had taken dance lessons together in the months leading up to the big day, and described it as one of their favorite parts of wedding planning—an experience that turned into a memory all its own.

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Instead of a traditional bridal party, the couple chose to be surrounded solely by family. The bride’s brothers, sister-in-law, and sister-in-love stood by her side, while the groom’s brothers and children, Natalie and Carson, stood by his. It was a heartfelt decision that reflected their desire to honor the people who have walked closest with them through life.

[field title=”Special Detail #2″]Margaret shared that as a plus-size bride, she was intentional about hiring a vendor team that would celebrate her, not just serve her. She didn’t often see brides with her body type represented in wedding media and made it a priority to work with photographers and creatives who would make her feel seen, beautiful, and confident—an empowering and important part of her story.[/field]

The rehearsal dinner was held at Hoppin’, a self-serve bar in Rock Hill, where guests could pour their own drinks—setting the tone for a relaxed and festive kickoff to the weekend. The groom’s love of gardening inspired the decor and dessert, with floral touches and playful nods to veggies and gardening woven throughout the celebration.
