A Soulful, Minimal Celebration Honoring the Natural Beauty of Kimolos, Greece

The color palette was grounded in the island itself: white for the traditional Cycladic architecture and the clean, simple beauty of the Kimolian buildings, green for the wild herbs, fig trees, and olive branches that grow naturally across the landscape, and yellow for the warm Aegean sun. These colors felt honest and connected to the island, nothing added, nothing taken away. Those colors also complemented perfectly our event locations.

FROM WEDDING PLANNER ANIRAM EVENTS: When we began planning the wedding in Kimolos, we knew from the very beginning that we didn’t want to take away from the island’s natural beauty; we wanted to honor it. The quiet charm, the whitewashed houses, the soft light, and the raw, unspoiled landscape became the heart of our inspiration. Rather than impose anything too elaborate, we embraced the island’s simplicity and authenticity. Every element was chosen to reflect the spirit of Kimolos: elegant, minimal, and full of soul.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

From our beautiful bride, Almila: ‘We got engaged in Kimolos, under the glow of the Strawberry Full Moon. We were staying in a traditional fisherman’s cave right by the sea, simple, peaceful, and perfect for us. After dinner at our favorite little taverna, my husband suggested we relax on our terrace, listening to the waves. As we sat there, he started speaking about our future: his hopes, dreams, and the life he envisioned for us. Then, in that quiet, magical moment, he took out the ring, went down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. With the moonlight reflecting off the sea and just the two of us there, it was intimate, honest, and more beautiful than anything I could have imagined.’

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]

From our beautiful bride Almila: ‘I knew I wanted my wedding gown to come from Barcelona, where I’ve been living for the past ten years, and which feels like home. I chose a dress from Cortana, a brand I’ve always loved not just for bridal, but for their timeless, effortless designs in general. It felt important to choose a gown from a place I already connected with, rather than a traditional bridal store. The style was simple yet elegant, made from natural fabrics with Cortana’s signature fluid line, perfect for the relaxed, seaside atmosphere of the Greek islands. It felt light, graceful, and completely in tune with the setting.’

[field title=”Food & Drink”]

FROM WEDDING PLANNER, ANIRAM EVENTS: For the food and drinks, it was important to us to support and showcase the island, so we chose to work exclusively with local providers. The main event took place at Meltemi, a beautiful restaurant with a stunning view over Kimolos, the perfect setting to enjoy this celebration. We fully embraced the local cuisine, with a focus on traditional meat dishes, prepared with care and authenticity. Every plate reflected the flavors of the island. The drinks were also local from the town bar called Agora.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

FROM WEDDING PLANNER, ANIRAM EVENTS: For the florals and décor, we collaborated once again with our hardworking and talented team from *First Day* in Faliro. After organizing another wedding in Kimolos last year, we had a deeper understanding of the island’s atmosphere and were able to curate pieces with thoughtful details that blended seamlessly with the natural surroundings. The floral arrangements reflected our color palette of white, green, and yellow, enhancing the space without overpowering it, and bringing a soft, fresh energy to the entire celebration. For the décor, we partnered with MELI Rentals, who offer a wide variety of event pieces, from luxury and traditional tabletop items to furnishings and unique decorative details. Their curated collections helped us create a setup that felt both elevated and in tune with the relaxed charm of Kimolos. We also added our own personal touches, including candles we own, which added warmth and intimacy to the space. The menus, table numbers, and printed materials were beautifully designed by a friend of the couple, making the whole setting feel even more personal and meaningful.

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

From our beautiful bride, Almila: We wanted our ceremony to feel familiar, personal, and warm, more like a gathering of friends than a formal event. One of our close friends officiated the ceremony, which made it feel even more intimate. Two of our best friends gave speeches, and we also shared a few words ourselves, making it a very personal moment. The ceremony took place in a small, picturesque plaza on the island, surrounded by whitewashed houses and that soft island light. Afterward, following a typical Greek island tradition, we all walked together to the venue through the narrow sokakia (the little streets), accompanied by a live Greek band. It felt like a moving celebration through the village, with music and joy leading the way. For our first dance, we chose a song by Justice, our favorite band. We had seen them live together the year before, so it felt like the perfect choice, something personal that reflected both our story and energy as a couple.

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

My personal favourite detail was the location itself. From the first days gathering in the central piazza to the second day of the official wedding, Kimolos island itself set the vibe for a very relaxed island wedding. Through my experience, as a destination wedding photographer who travels a lot in the Greek islands, in the mid of June the Greek islands are normally full of people and loud vibes. Kimolos Island was very different. It is calm and beautiful and that’s why this was my very first special detail. From the crystal blue beaches to the perfect island vibe, Kimolos is your must-go-to.

[field title=”Special Detail #3″]FROM WEDDING PLANNER, ANIRAM EVENTS:

One of our favorite and most special details was the presence of a Greek band, two wonderful musicians who brought so much heart and energy to the celebration. They played traditional Greek music that truly elevated the atmosphere, creating a lively vibe that pulled everyone -Greeks and non-Greeks to the dance floor. Their music connected everyone![/field]
