An Organic, Earthy Tented Wedding on Family Land

Hosting our intimate tented wedding on Lucas’ grandparents’ land was a dream come true. We had talked and dreamed about getting married here for many years. Being in the wedding industry myself, I knew I wanted the location of our wedding to feel like us, and this special property felt like exactly that, us. Sharing this sentimental place with all of our family and friends on our wedding day was so beyond special. The design and vision for our day was inspired by the property, and it’s nature, along with our other favorite places and things. We wanted to create a warm and organic dinner party environment, filled with organic flowers, lots of texture, and intentional details that reflected our love story – such as our love for bistro restaurants, fun cocktails, pizza, upbeat music, and our favorite people.

Lucas proposed at one of our favorite outlooks in the town we live in, starting the next chapter of our love story. It was a chilly October day, and we ran errands in the morning, and then Lucas insisted on going for a little walk to the outlook. We admired the fall color together, and when I turned around, Lucas was on one knee. Just the two of us, surrounded by the crisp fall Wisconsin air, it was a perfectly simple and such meaningful moment that we will always treasure. After some time together soaking up the moment, we went to see all of our family and friends to share the special news!

My wedding gown was beaded with a delicate vine and floral pattern and had a detachable tulle skirt. I loved how it gave me two distinct looks from a romantic, whimsical, flowing style to a more sleek, sophisticated silhouette.

The groomsmen wore traditional black tuxes. Their crisp attire complemented the groom’s black tux, which had black button covers and black velvet shoes for that extra special touch.

For cocktail hour we served Charcuterie and Caprese Salad along side our cocktail menu that offered our favorite cocktails, beer, wine and mocktails. When guests sat for dinner they were served family style focaccia bread, salad, and wood fired pizzas made on site. It felt like the perfect warm and comforting dinner party with our favorite people. Following dinner, we hosted a second cocktail hour that we called Espresso Martini Hour, where we served Coffee & Dessert, and of course, Espresso Martinis, with fun upbeat house music until it was time to hit the dance floor.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

As someone who loves flowers, this was a very important part of our day. With Briar Loft’s earthy and organic neutral approach, our floral elements elevated our design and blended seamlessly with the natural surroundings. For our ceremony, we opted for a lush white and green ground arch that framed us perfectly in front of large trees on the property for our “I Dos.” A linen memory sign marked my dad’s chair, keeping his presence close to our hearts. As a unity ceremony, Lucas and I planted an olive tree with soil from both our childhood homes and the property. Inside our tent, we had greens delicately hanging from the cafe lights to give the dining experience that extra touch of whimsical nature. We created a cozy, organic, home-like design by using a thoughtful blend of textures and elements, including wooden bentwood chairs, a mix of white linen and taupe velvet tablecloths, and hemstitched napkins with wooden napkin rings. We wanted guests to feel comfortable, cozy at our backyard dinner party.

Our simple, white wedding cake was displayed on a wooden cake stand, decorated with delicate olive branch twigs, adding a touch of organic charm.

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

We wanted our cocktail hour and reception to feel upbeat and exciting, with music that was non-traditional to weddings, yet inclusive of all guests. With a love for a variety of music, we carefully curated a playlist for each portion of our day with the help of our DJ, David Charles Pro, filled with a blend of European and American house music and timeless classics, which set the perfect tone for a lively celebration for the duration of our day. Our wedding ceremony was a deeply personal and emotional celebration. Our string trio, Yahara Stings, played our processional music, beginning with Lucas’s parents walking him down the aisle to Elvis’ Can’t Help Falling in Love, followed by our wedding party walking down to Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles. And finally, my brothers walking me down the aisle to Bridgerton’s Heart and Flowers Ball played by our string trio, a moment I will never forget. Inspired by the way music evokes emotion in movies, we chose to start our recessional music during our “I Do’s.” We selected the end of M83’s Outro, which slowly increased volume, building anticipation as we approached our first kiss. The Song crescendoed at the perfect moment, giving us and our guests a touch of goosebumps as we shared our first kiss and walked down the aisle as husband and wife.

Our “Favorite People and Places” Seating Card Display was a heartfelt tribute featuring framed photos and maps of our most cherished locations. We decorated the shelves with lamps, plants, and travel books, which created an inviting, home-like display that celebrated our love store. Guests loved exploring this personal piece, taking photos in front of it, and sharing in the memories it represented.

[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

Our bar in the reception tent was a labor of love, as we designed and built both the bar and shelving ourselves to bring our unique vision to life. It was such a meaningful project to create together, adding a personal touch to our wedding day. Sharing this special piece with our guests made it even more memorable, as it became a focal point of the tent and overall design.

[field title=”Special Detail #3″]We incorporated the southern tradition of burying a bottle of bourbon upside down, one month before our wedding day. Tradition says if you do it properly, it will ensure beautiful weather on your wedding day. Come wedding day, we had the most beautiful, sunny September day in Wisconsin. After the ceremony, we dug up the bottle and shared a celebratory drink with our guests. We are so happy that we took part in this fun and memorable tradition, that worked in our favor![/field]
