Sometimes, when you start out wedding planning, you quickly realize that some parts of your wedding vision just don’t mesh. Don’t panic, that’s totally normal! Take it from this couple, wedding planning should be a fluid process, especially when you’re in the early stages. They both grew up envisioning a wedding in their hometowns and the bride had always pictured a bright spring wedding. As it turns out, that’s a pretty tall order when both of their hometowns are in the Pacific Northwest. But, as fate would have it, their home away from home during the pandemic ended up being just the right fit. So, in the end, they did have everything they always dreamed of, it just took a little outside-the-box thinking and the right team. Rachel Solomon Photography was there to capture every last detail of their timeless blush and ivory wedding, so keep scrolling to see more!

their love story
Jacob and I met on a dating app, Hinge, in September 2020. Our first date was at a riverfront restaurant in Vancouver, Washington where we quickly found a common bond over traveling, relaxing in the sunshine, and margaritas. We closed down the restaurant that first night talking and laughing into the evening. Having met not long after the start of the pandemic, travel was still limited, however, my family shares a vacation home in Scottsdale, Arizona and this became a favorite destination of ours early on while dating. After two years together, Jacob proposed and we dove right into wedding planning.
there’s no place like home away from home
The first wedding decisions to be made were, of course, the when and the where. Jacob wanted to be married outdoors and I wanted to get married in the Spring. Having both been born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, our hometowns just weren’t going to match up with what we envisioned for our wedding day. In no time at all, we agreed on a destination wedding in Arizona, and that there was no better way to share a place that we have grown to treasure with our loved ones. With the decision made our wedding day vision began to unfold. After multiple fun-filled days of touring the many beautiful venue offerings in the greater Phoenix area, we fell in love with El Chorro, from the views of Camelback Mountain and the elegantly groomed desert grounds to the pavilion.
the fashion
Jenessa wore a stunning lace gown with a tulle overlay and a delicate tulle veil. Her bridesmaids helped incorporate the blush from the color palette into the ceremony with mix-and-match chiffon dresses in the same shade. Jacob opted for a classic black tux, the perfect fit for the timeless wedding design.
the vision: elegant, romantic, and whimsical
While deciding on the venue felt like the biggest decision, there was still so much more to do, and we could not have designed and flawlessly executed the wedding of our dreams without having met Ashley Lautt, from Revel Wedding Co. She quickly began to feel like a best friend and wedding superhero. As we met with selected vendors and made design decisions, I always described our wedding vision as elegant, romantic, and whimsical. We found inspiration in my love of classic romantic literature like Pride and Prejudice and the aesthetics of the popular series Bridgerton, we also gathered new ideas from social media posts from local vendors like Revel and El Chorro. Our color palette included ivory, blush, natural greens, and classic gold.
Our dinner tables were set with gold-rimmed chargers and utensils as well as gold vases to add fun accents to the evening. We also used gold frames in our cocktail hour bar menus to add pops of color to a floral backdrop. During cocktail hour and reception, we used decorative sofas and chairs in whites and blush provided by Prim Design Co to allow cozy seating around the fireplaces, both indoors and outdoors, which allowed our guests to sit back and enjoy a cocktail or take a break from dancing.
the flowers
One of my favorite ceremony details was having white petals scattered down the aisle prior to the start of our ceremony which was then followed by blush petals thrown by our flower girls just before my entrance. This made my pathway to the altar feel extra special, and our flower girls loved having their own pink petals to throw. To further integrate these colors into our day, Lux Wedding Florists used white and blush roses with leafy greenery made into a rounded floral arch for the altar. This was by far one of my favorite aspects of the wedding as I loved the look of the arch in front of Camelback Mountain during our ceremony and in all of our family photos. We also had our first dance as a married couple on the altar during our reception which provided a beautiful backdrop with not only the floral arch but a fun surprise of cold sparks in the background as well.
We carried the florals into our reception arrangements which we staggered both high and low to create a more distinct look amongst our guests’ tables. To give our dance floor an intimate atmosphere, we covered the ceiling with hanging greenery and white flowers overtop a white dance floor with our gold monogram. Jacob and I could not have been happier with how everything Lux provided turned out. In my world, there is no such thing as too many flowers.
the favors
When the sun set, guests could help themselves to elegant pashminas in shades of rose and ivory to keep them comfortable during the alfresco reception in the temperate Arizona climate.
an espresso martini-cart
The crowd-pleaser of the night was our hand-crafted espresso martini cart provided by Caffio. Espresso martinis are a beloved date night tradition for the two of us, and Caffio enabled us to share this love with our family and friends on our wedding day. We made a custom G stencil, representing our newly married last name, which was used to sprinkle a cocoa powder martini topper and it was a hit!
the cake
The couple opted for a tall yet understated four-tiered wedding cake with natural flower details.
a sparkling finalé
Our special day ended, not with a bang, but a spark–cold sparks, and a lot of them! Our path to the getaway car was lined with cold sparks, friends, family, and so many smiles. After over a year of planning our wedding day dream came true.
