Set against the golden hues of a New England fall, this black-tie celebration at The Barn at Flanagan Farm beautifully blended rustic charm with timeless elegance. With the rich, romantic florals by Lani Toscano Design and breathtaking images captured by Annmarie Swift, every detail of the day radiated warmth, love, and personal meaning. From a ceremony framed by wild autumn foliage to a candlelit dinner beneath suspended flower clouds and gold star lights, this Maine wedding is a perfect balance of sophistication and seasonal splendor.

I’ve always loved autumn in New England — some of my earliest memories are from my childhood in Maine, watching the gold, orange, and red leaves dance in the crisp October air. That feeling inspired everything about our wedding design. I wanted to amplify the rich colors of the season through deep oranges, burgundy, olive, and touches of gold, and pair that warmth with the elegance of a black-tie celebration. Our venue, The Barn at Flanagan Farm, already had so much natural beauty that I simply wanted to enhance it — from the wild, autumn-hued ceremony arbor in the woods to the clear dinner tent filled with suspended flower clouds and golden star lights that mirrored the night sky. Every detail reflected that perfect balance of rustic charm and refined formality that I envisioned.

It was equally important to us that our day felt deeply personal. We incorporated touches of Alex’s French heritage through hand-painted taper candles inspired by the Brittany flag, French champagne, and my dad’s surprise toast delivered partly in French. The menu by Big Tree Catering showcased our favorite local flavors — including mini lobster rolls, Chebeague Island oysters, and family-style entrées of grilled beef and black cod — followed by a homemade cake adorned with sugar flowers to match our florals. From the northern lights that appeared on our welcome night to the champagne sabering that kicked off dinner, every moment of the weekend felt magical. Choosing my Mira Zwillinger gown with my parents was another dream come true, and I loved how its cascading leaf embroidery echoed the season that inspired it all.
We have gorgeous fall weddings in our library!
