When Kate purchased, renovated, and designed the historic St. James 1868 church, she was thinking like a businesswoman, not a bride-to-be. But when Kate and Neil started planning their wedding, there was never a doubt about where they would tie the knot. Inspired by her venue’s European charm and Neil’s Indian heritage, Kate played with color and texture to capture the old-world feel of the church’s stunning architecture. Between the sweet treats, six signature drinks, a fashion sketcher, a caricature artist, and a portrait studio, the newlyweds gave their guests an immersive and unforgettable experience that whisked them away to old Europe.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]
Kate was months away from opening her new wedding venue when she met Neil, a fellow entrepreneur who swept her off her feet. However, neither could have anticipated a global pandemic complicating both their businesses and their dating life. Instead of flirty texts and dinner dates, the pair was catapulted into a period of stress and uncertainty, sticking together every step of the way. As Kate’s venue stayed empty for months, Neil stood by her side and comforted her with late-night walks and heartfelt conversations. Though difficult at the time, their experience solidified their love and trust in each other for good. Several years later, Kate planned a couple’s trip to Tulum with her closest friends, unaware they had schemed a surprise beach proposal with Neil!

In the lobby, Kate surprised her husband by transforming the space into a French café and dessert bar complete with bistro music, espresso martinis, a gelato bar, and plenty of Indian and pâtisserie desserts!

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]The couple wed in a Hindu ceremony under a mandap of pink blooms to match their floral garlands. Following the ceremony, guests were treated to an Indian luncheon with live food stations before returning to the Abbey for a Western ceremony. This time, Kate wore a blush mermaid dress while Neil sported a black tux. In the reception hall, three styles of tables mixed pops of teal velvet with neutral satin linens. They all featured black scalloped chargers, mismatched rose china, vintage flatware, and custom menu cards inspired by the 15th-century carved monastery woodwork in the venue.[/field]
