It was the wedding of the year – but it was the most beautiful love Show of all time – the most beautiful wedding since Diana and Grace Kelly, and the most attractive princes of the world. 11.13 am: Prince William surprised in a bright red Uniform

Nun beginnt das Warten:
Um 13.30 Uhr erreichen die Queen und Prinz Philip den Palast, die Gäste fahren der Reihe nach in Bussen vor. Knapp eine Stunde später, um 14.24 Uhr, der Moment, auf den alle gewartet haben: William und Kate erscheinen auf dem mit weinroten Stoffen verzierten Balkon des Buckingham Palace. Das riesige Menschenmeer am Platz davor, der Prachtallee “The Mall” und dem angrenzenden “St. James’s Park” bricht in frenetischen, gar hysterischen Jubel aus.

Paare fallen sich um den Hals, Kinder springen in die Höhe, um zumindest ­einen Sekundenbruchteil des prächtigen Anblickes einzufangen. “Das ist die Wiedergeburt der Monarchie“, schluchzt die englische Verkäuferin Debbie Burdon (41): “So stolz war ich noch nie, Britin zu sein.” “Kannst du den Balkon sehen?”, ist die am häufigsten gestellte Frage.

14.24 Uhr: Als Kate den Balkon betritt, haucht sie: “Wow!”
Eine Eruption des Glücksgefühls: Will und Kate schreiten unter dem nun ohrenbetäubenden Geschrei Hunderttausender zum Kuss. “Wow”, haucht Kate ihrem William zu, mit so einem Menschenandrang hatte niemand gerechnet.

14.25 Uhr: Am Balkon küsst William küsst seine Kate gleich zwei Mal
Hinter dem Brautpaar stehen die Royals und die Familie von Kate Middleton. Um 14.25 Uhr ist es soweit. William küsst seine Kate. Aber nur kurz, der Kuss dauert 0,7  Sekunden (nur knapp länger als das 0,4-Sekunden-Bussi, das Prinz Charles Lady Di gegeben hatte).

Das ist den Massen zu wenig: “Do it again”, skandieren sie. William hört auf das Volk, küsst Kate ein zweites Mal, diesmal etwas länger als eine Sekunde.

Es ist der Höhepunkt eines historischen 29. April 2011. Jener Moment, „den die Welt so schnell nicht vergessen wird“, wie die ­Beamtin Tina Ford (36), eingezwängt in den Massen, unter Freudentränen, festhält.

14.31 Uhr: Jetzt wird im Palast weitergefeiert

Zum Abschluss gibt es eine Flugparade der Royal Air Force (William ist Pilot): Erst eine Spitfire und eine Hurricane, dann zwei Typhoon- und zwei Tornado-Kampfflieger.

Die Märchenhochzeit läuft mit einer faszinierenden Choreografie ab, dazu eine Präzision beim Ablauf, die selbst die treusten Royalisten beeindruckte.

Um 14.31 Uhr verlassen Kate und William den Balkon. Nun beginnt hinter den verschlossenen Türen des Palastes das “Wedding Breakfast” für 600 geladene Gäste. Für das Champagnerfrühstück öffnet die Queen 19  Räume.

16.40  Uhr: William & Kate fahren im Cabrio davon
Um 16.40  Uhr braust das Brautpaar mit einem blauen ‘Aston Martin DB 6’- Cabrio aus dem Palast. Das Kennzeichen: “JU5T WED”, William fährt, Kate sitzt am Beifahrersitz. Der Wagen gehört Prinz Charles und wird mit Bioethanol betrieben. Der krönende Abschluss der offiziellen Feierlichkeiten (am Abend ging die Party im Palast freilich weiter).

“Seine Mutter wäre so stolz auf ihn”, stand am Morgen am Cover des englischen Massenblattes The Sun: “Ein Echo von Diana hallte durch London.” Die ganze Eheschließung sei ein einziger Tribut an die 1997 tragisch verunglückte Mutter.

Sir Elton John, dessen Candle in the Wind die Welt beim Diana-Begräbnis zu Tränen rührte: “Als Junge musste William hinter dem Sarg seiner Mutter durch London gehen”, so der Sänger, “jetzt schreitet er durch die Abbey mit dieser wunderbaren Frau.” England hat eine neue Königin der Herzen.

“Ich finde die Inszenierung sehr schön anzusehen, mit großem Prunk und Pomp, so wie es die Engländer lieben. Ein wunderbares Brautkleid, zwar klassisch, aber nicht zu klassisch. Die Wahl des eher modischen Brautkleides sehe ich als Indiz, dass die beiden für einen Wandel im Königshaus stehen.”

“Ich habe die Hochzeit unglaublich genossen. Eine wunderbare, toll inszenierte Feier. Kate und William waren so locker und nett, ein wirklich vorbildliches und sehr schönes Brautpaar. Wie lange das Ganze hält, weiß man in der heutigen Zeit natürlich nie. Aber Kate wird schon vernünftig sein.”
