the vision: natural italian beauty
I have dreamed of being married in Italy since I was a little girl. The thought of an incredible landscape like the Amalfi coast, with its iconic backdrop known around the world, added with incredible cuisine and culture–it gives me chills! Matt, my husband, knew my dream and we made it a reality. We both love to travel and pursued the idea of having our closest friends and family spend a week in Italy with us! Together with Sophisticated Weddings Italy, we decided on a romantic and timeless design while maintaining a classic white color scheme. One aspect we did add to our wedding that I was fond of was a ‘we wish you were here’ table with photos of late grandparents who we wish could have been present with us. This table was decorated with photos of our loved ones, adding a sentimental and beautiful touch to the day. Matt and I owe a lot of who we are to our families, and we love them and thank them for their unwavering support.
the proposal
A month or so before our engagement, Matt surprised me with a weekend trip to Los Angeles. We played on the beach and had great food in Santa Monica. He drove me to a jewelry store in downtown LA, and to my surprise, the jeweler was a business with engagement rings we had been looking at via Instagram. He knew I liked their designs and flew us to LA for me to look at their rings in person! I couldn’t believe it. Later, he surprised me with our proposal. He gave me a glittered gold bag, inside was a pair of earrings I had lost on our trip to LA. I was so thankful that he got them for me! He told me to keep digging and I found a photo book. On each page there was a photo of us, a memory, and a sweet note. As I kept flipping the photo book, tears started flowing. On the very last page of the book, he wrote, ‘Will you marry me?’ I looked up and Matt was on one knee. It was one of the happiest moments of my life. Spending our life together is true happiness to me. I always wanted our proposal to be intimate and special, and he nailed it.
the invitations
Is there anything more exciting to receive in the mail than an invitation to Italy? We love these gilded save-the-dates and the custom sketch of the venue on this timeless wedding stationery.
the flowers
We used Malafronte, a floral designer based in the Amalfi coast area, recommended highly by our planner. I love white roses and simply wanted these spread across our entire wedding day. Malafronte sent a few ideas and I loved them, so it was quite easy! I told them the focus was white floral centerpieces and, of course, the asymmetrical arch we had during our ceremony. I also dreamed of having an aisle made of white rose petals, and they made this a reality as well.
the venue
Our venue was Belmond Caruso in Ravello. Each corner is charming and picturesque. I could not imagine a more beautiful place to marry my best friend. I let Ravello take the lead and everything else just fell into place. I like to say I was a very easy-going bride. I knew our love was the most important thing, and whatever happened would happen! How can you be picky with the Italian coast as your venue?!
the dress
You could say my Pinterest board had a pretty good idea of what I thought I wanted my gown to look like. I tried modern, asymmetrical gowns that were simple. It is quite funny to me that the gown I fell in love with has lace and a long train. I was really happy I chose to try different styles of gowns before finding ‘the one.’ My gown is designed by Justin Alexander Signature. I extended the train and veil for a more dramatic look. I think my gown is romantic while also a bit sexy. It features a strapless neckline, a lace corset, and lace trim. Something I also loved about my gown was that it hugged me in all the right ways! I am a Pilates instructor when I’m not on duty as a nurse and I wanted to show off for my husband. Another aspect of my gown that I loved was the bustle. My gown had a French bustle which I thought was beautiful and it made dancing and celebrating with our loved ones easy. I received beautiful lace Jimmy Choos as a wedding gift. They were surprisingly comfortable and went perfectly with my gown.
cocktail hour
During cocktail hour, we served mini bites and had a premium open bar. We also worked with Belmond Caruso and had a signature drink named after our fur-baby, a mini golden doodle named Milo! The signature drink was a peach Bellini. I got drink stirrers made off Etsy with Milo’s face on them to add to each peach Bellini.
custom limoncello favors
A detail from our welcome dinner was custom-made Limoncello bottles our planner recommended from a local vendor! These bottles were custom for Matt and I, with our names on each bottle and our wedding date. Each guest was given this bottle as a memento of this incredible time. The night ended with a surprise fireworks show we had no idea would take place! We got lucky! Our guests were thrilled.
a traditional Italian wedding cake
I wanted the classic Italian cake of Millefoglie! This was so fun and delicious. We cut our cake in the gardens of Belmond Caruso with sparklers in the background. It is one of my favorite memories of our day.
